Fun At The Battersea Park Children's Zoo

We finally had a gorgeous day of sunshine (well, there were grey clouds too, but no rain today)!  We headed over the bridge to Battersea Park and went to the children's zoo there.  It is perfect for little ones - small enough for little legs to walk around and it has a fabulous playground.

Nathan was so excited to go see the "amimals" and the zoo did not disappoint.  He especially loved the "ooo ooo aah aahs" (also known as the monkeys).  Here are a few pictures from the children's zoo.

Happy Fourth of July!

Unfortunately, the country from which we won our independence does not celebrate that little milestone.  So, the fourth of July came and went without too much fanfare here.  Chris had to work today, but Casey, Nathan, and I made the most of the day.  We finally had a little bit of sun, so we headed to the playground to get some Vitamin D.  Nathan, of course, loved it!

Chris did manage to come home a bit early tonight, so we tried to go to the barbecue place by our house to get a little taste of home.  It was completely packed, so we ended up at a restaurant a little further down the street.  It was a complete disaster - the restaurant was much fancier than what we were looking for; Nathan proceeded to break a glass in the first five minutes we were there; and there was nothing on the menu that sounded remotely good to eat.  We ended up getting Nathan's food to go (because we had already ordered it) and paying for our drinks and leaving.  Needless to say, we don't have any pictures from our Fourth of July dinner.  I don't want to perpetuate the myth about bad British food, so I will say that we have had lots of good restaurant experiences here, this just was not one of them :)

We ended the night with an impromptu dance party in the living room with Chris flickering the living room lights to simulate the fireworks show that we were undoubtedly missing at home.

We hope you all had a wonderful Fourth of July!

Fun At The Purple Dragon Kids Club

We checked out our new kids club today.  Nathan and Uncle Casey had lots of fun.  It's a good thing Nathan likes it because this will be one of our go-to activities when it rains (which, if the past few days are any indicator, will be very frequently)!

Our London Adventure Has Begun!

We made it to London!  It is still hard to believe that this will be our home for the next two years.  Our trip here was very smooth.  Nathan fell asleep right before they wheeled our the dessert cart and he did not wake up until we began our final descent.  Of course, it helped that we took off shortly before his bed-time (and the lie-flat seats didn't hurt either).  Nathan (and Elmo) also did a great job patiently waiting to clear customs.

We have begun to get settled, but still have a ways to go.  We're hoping to get our air shipment of our belongings from Pasadena by the end of the week.  Once we get all of our things and have them all fully unpacked, I think this will really feel like home.  Chris and I fell in love with our flat when we saw it in May and it is proving to be even better than we thought it would.  Nathan is loving the fact that our patio opens out onto the neighborhood garden.  He loves running around the big grassy area!

We are also very grateful to have Uncle Casey here staying with us for a bit.  Nathan loves playing with him and he is also pretty good at putting together IKEA furniture :)

Thank you all for the well wishes on our new adventure!  I will try to keep you all updated on how we're doing.
